Pauline Purves 13th May 2011

A Final Word for our Mum, written & read on the 12th May 2011 at a family supper, on the day of her funeral:- Here we are gathered, on this special day, & so I have a few words to say…. While today has not always been fun, I am glad to say, the deed has been done. Mass has been celebrated, prayers have been said, Speeches have been written, rehearsed & read. The hearse colour choice was a stunning white, Very representative of Mummy’s great light. We all left the church in limos & cars, To drive to the cemetery, not very far. The sun shone brightly, the sky was blue, & Mummy’s plot, had a beautiful view. The coffin was lowered slowly, into the ground, It felt good, to have so many people around. The lovely Sheila, dear Wife, Grandma & Mum, Would have been pleased, so many had come. Soil was thrown & flowers dropped, & just for a moment, everything stopped. Mummy had been laid peacefully to rest, And all concerned had done their best. So now we can all say out loud, We have done our Mother proud ! Mummy always saw the bright side of life, & was certainly, a very loyal wife. But Dear Daddy, now it’s time for you, & there may be quite a lot to do. We will be here, over coming days & weeks, To give whatever help, you seek. We love you, just like we loved Mum, So whenever you need us, we will come. It is great to have all the family here, So let’s have a final toast, to Mummy dear. Let’s keep her memory, forever alive, For we know, her spirit will always thrive…………. With Love Always, Pauline xxxx
