2011 April 30

I started to build my tribute for my Mum, Sheila Corkery today with the help of my sister Susan on Saturday the 30th April at my home in Oxford. We had just returned here the previous night from my parents home after watching the Royal Wedding with my Dad, two other sisters Angela & Pauline, her husband Andrew & my husband Mike. It was an important day as my Mum, Sheila, had been looking forward to watching the event at home with Pauline & my Dad. Susan & I were due to be in Palma on a girlie break with friends that week & Angela would have been at home in Texas, but planned to be up at 3am to watch the Royal Wedding! With her English friend Sharon. As Mum had deteriorated so rapidly since the weekend Susan & I had decided not to go to Palma & Angela had planned to fly over from Texas as soon as possible. Maria our other sister who is living in Portugal planned to try to fly over on the Friday & my brother Forrest (Philip) was in the UK but due to return to his home in Sweden with his wife Erika & two young children (Celia & Holly) on that Wednesday. Mum was so much worse on the Wednesday & sadly we lost her on Wednesday the 27th April at around 18:30. She was at home thankfully and Dad, Pauline, Susan & I were all with her whilst she slipped away. We all spent that night together with Mum, as Dad wanted & on Thursday my sister Angela was arriving from America in the morning sadly knowing already she was just too late to see Mum, what an awfully sad journey for her to have to make. Although shell shocked we knew we would have to start dealing with our loss & cope with the reality of it all. Our hearts went out to my brother Forrest(Philip) & Maria who were so far away but have tried to be together as much as we can on the phone, text & email. Dad seems lost without his Sheleam, as he calls her. But we are a strong family so we can support one another through this. Those of us here already in the UK therefore decided that on the Friday we would get together in honour of my Mum & watch the Royal Wedding all together & to have one of the family party lunches she always loved. It was hard as we did have sad moments & a few tears but also lots of laughter too. Just as she would have wanted. We left Dad at home that evening with my sister Angela & Susan & I came back to Oxford with my husband Mike. Saturday was a new day & Susan & I were firing on all cylinders to get things into place & this website began! We both thought it would be a lovely way to share with all Mum’s friends & family our thoughts, memories & love for her. There is so much to still do, I have to add in the life story but I will try to make an interesting summary of this marvellous lady’s life story. It will be hard as so much to say & in constant working progress! I'm sure I will have much input from my brother & all my sisters! I hope you enjoy having a look through and reliving some of the memories or just learning a little more about this great lady who was a fantastic Mum, a loyal loving wife and a great friend to many. Please do add your own thoughts & pictures if you have any as its lovely for us all to be able to pay tribute to her and share in all the happy memories & times had with her. If you do wish to donate to our chosen charity, HASAG (Hampshire Asbestos Support & Awareness Group), then you can do so from Mum's site. Please do not feel obliged. The main purpose of this webpage is to pay tribute to our Mum & to share with all her friends & family the happy times we had with her. Thank you.
