This is the narrative from the homepage from my JustGiving Website ( http://www.justgiving.com/Sheila-Doris-Corkery-nee-Clitheroe) that I set up to raise money for the MacMillan Nurses who Mike & I planned to run for in The Great South Run on 30th October 2011. Afer completing the 3 mile(6k)Race For Life in Oxford in June this year, in memory of my Lovely Mum I’m planning to run, yes I said Run! 10 miles (16k!) in The Great South Run on Sunday 30 October in memory of my lovely Mum, Sheila Doris Corkery nee' Clitheroe, who we sadly lost after her 4 month battle to cancer on the 27 of April this year. Mum suffered from a usual type of cancer Mesothelioma, which is Asbestos related, and is apparently becoming quite prevalent in Hampshire residents of a certain age, it is fatal and sadly claiming many victims. For those of you who know me I don’t do running! But wanted to do something this year in memory of my Mum, who was truly a lovely lady and is sadly missed. I also want to help raise money for the MacMillan Nurses who helped my Mum & my family at this very difficult time. Not being a runner of any sort (except perhaps running to the bar!), it will be a real challenge for me to even complete this 10 mile run! Can’t say my training has gone too well to date the furthest I have run is only 5.6 miles & that took me over an hour! But I am determined! The lovely Mike is my trainer (yes a few arguments when he pushes me!) & will be running alongside me on the day to shout, I mean encourage…. me to the finish line! I’m not sure how my Phoebe from friends running style of flailing arms & knock kneed legs will manage on the day but I am determined to finish somehow!?! Mike, bless him will no doubt have to put up with my whingeing all around the course which I’m sure will continue for days after whilst I’m recovering! So he needs your encouragement too! We have only 23 days left to get me on form, yikes! In a nutshell & coining a phrase from a good friend of mine, which is very true of me too, I may hate running but I hate Cancer more. Please give what you can & thank-you for your support. Yvie x P.S. I will email photographic evidence that I have completed! It won’t be a pretty sight I’m sure!
